Default What does a "lengthen xxx" upgrade do?

For example, if I have a Rotwing Recurve Bow that lengthens poison duration on foes by 33%, how does the game calculate the duration? Is it only when I first poison the creature? Or does it renew the duration with every hit? And, what if someone else in my party poisons the creature, when I hit will that increase the duration as well? Or is it only my poisonous attacks that get lengthened?

I searched Wiki and this forum and couldnt find an answer. Thank you in advance.

The Rotwing Bow on it's own will not poison anyone. To poison someone you need to use a skill that gives your target poison. Assuming you are a Ranger Or Ranger secondary, there are a number of skills that Rangers can use to poison someone.. Apply Poison, and Poison Arrow readily spring to mind.

If you use one of these skills, when you read the description, it will give a duration for the poison effect in seconds. So if you use that skill and your Rotwing Bow, the bow will lengthen the duration of the poison effect.

Now depending on the skill used, the poison effect will happen again on the next attack (Apply Poison), or it may not (Poison Arrow) unless you use that skill again. If the next attack uses a Poison skill again your bow will lengthen it duration and the poison timer will in effect restart again.

If someone else in your party poisons the target, your bow will NOT lengthen the duration, as the bow will only lengthen poison attacks that you use.

Poison, bleeding and similar don't stack in GW. The longer effect will simply overwrite the weaker effect.

So, the modification simply works like this: if you use a skill that causes the condition to be applied to the target, the duration of the effect you cause will be increased by the specified percentage. It won't affect the skills of other people, and only through skills can you inflict the condition.

I understand in my example I have to use a skill that causes poison first, such as Apply Poison, Poison Arrow, or Poison Tip Signet.

I was just curious if the weapon upgrade lengthened the effect with each hit, and if it affected hits from other players, too. And you answered that; no it does not.

As I understand it, the lengthening mods work as follows:

Suppose you are currently wielding a weapon with 33% poison lengthening. You use a skill that causes X seconds of the poisoned condition. Normally the skill would simply cause the X seconds (assuming there are no other modifiers of course), but when holding the weapon you'll instead inflict the poison condition for 1.33(X) seconds. So if the skill normally causes 10 seconds of poison, it will instead cause ~13 seconds of poison. The lengthening is applied only when you use a skill that causes the effect it lengthens.

Whenever you use a skill that causes poison, just imagine that the duration written is really 4/3 the number shown in the skill description.
